Our Story

Our Story

Hibi means "every day" in Japanese - and that's exactly where we believe the best things belong.

Our brand was shaped by two different paths, brought together by a shared sense of how to move through the world: with intention, simplicity, and quiet care.

One of us grew up in Shizuoka, Japan - a region renowned for its tea - in a family where tea farming was simply a way of life. From an early age, her mother introduced her to the Japanese tea ceremony, where she came to understand matcha not just as a drink, but as a practice. Its depth. Its stillness. The patience behind every cup. Alongside tea, she studied calligraphy, learning to find meaning in balance, precision, and the beauty of a single deliberate stroke.

The other grew up beside an old family shrine - a place where tradition was not something learned, but simply lived. Surrounded by ritual, seasonality, and the quiet rhythms of a life rooted in the past, she was raised with a natural understanding of reverence and care. It was within this world that she came to traditional Japanese dance, where every movement carries weight, and stillness is not the absence of motion - it is its own kind of presence.

Different upbringings. The same rhythm.

As matcha finds its way into the wider world, it's easy to lose sight of where it comes from. We source our teas carefully from Japan, honoring the generations of craft behind each harvest. From cultivation to processing, every step is handled with care - preserving not just the quality of the tea, but its character and story.

At the same time, we believe tea should feel accessible, not ceremonial. A quiet morning with matcha. A slow evening with hojicha. A small moment of stillness in an otherwise full day.

No rules. No complexity. Just tea, in its truest form.

Through Hibi, we hope to share something of Japan beyond the tea itself - its sense of balance, its mindfulness, and its deep appreciation for the ordinary made meaningful.
